The 2024 annual city census forms have been delivered to the Post Office and all households in the community should begin to receive them soon. As this is a Presidential Election year, residents are encouraged to complete and return the census forms to the City Clerk’s Office in a timely fashion in order to maintain their active voter status.
Registered voters who do not respond to the census by June 1, 2024 are considered inactive. Inactive voters are required to complete additional forms and show ID prior to voting at their polling location. Additionally, completing the required forms at a polling location DOES NOT return a resident to active voting status. Voters still must return a census form to become active and avoid completing additional forms in future elections.
The information obtained from the census is used in preparing the annual street listing and updating the active voting list, as well as providing projections for public safety needs and school enrollment. An up-to-date census count is the basis for the allocation of state and federal funds and grants. The census also provides proof of residency, which is necessary for veterans’ benefits. If a family member is in the service or away at school, you may keep them on your census as long as they are not a registered voter elsewhere. Please make sure ALL members of your household are listed including children, extended family and any others living at your address.
