VOTING AT THE POLLS ON ELECTION DAY

The City of Fitchburg Polling Hours for Elections are 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Election Day. This includes all state local and federal preliminary, primary and general elections.

Fitchburg is divided into six wards, each with two voting precincts. Each ward has an assigned polling place. You can look up your wards polling place here. You must be registered in advance of the election and may only vote in your designated wards polling place. If you are not sure if you’re registered to vote or need to find your Ward/Precinct Information you can search for your registration status and designated ward and precinct on the Secretary of the Commonwealth's Where Do I Vote Database.

I'm at the Polling Place, how do I vote?

When you arrive at your polling place you will need to check in to receive a ballot and any instructions. Each ward is separated into two Precincts, A & B, You can look up your Precinct on the Secretary of the Commonwealth's Where Do I Vote Database

At the Check-in table you will provide the poll worker your address and name. In a State or Federal election If you are unenrolled voter you will need to choose one party's ballot. The poll worker will repeat back your address, name and party ballot to confirm.

You may be required to show identification in very specific situations which include if:

  •  You registered to vote online or by mail and this is your first time voting,
  • You are an inactive voter,
  • You are casting a challenged or provisional ballot.

After you check in you will be provided with a ballot. Your ballot must be filled in using one of the provided marker to fill the entire oval. Please read the directions before completing your ballot.

If you need help marking your ballot due to physical disability, inability to read, or inability to read English, you may bring anyone of your choosing into the voting booth with you. Alternatively, you may ask for the assistance or use the AutoMARK Voter Assist Terminal. The AutoMARK will read the ballot to you and mark the choices that you indicate.

Once you have finished marking your ballot insert your ballot into the box per the instructions. The City uses an optical scan ballot, a poll worker will be available to provide instructions.
